Feb 26th 2013. Luke Sunde finished his remarkable CVCA hockey career in his usual fashion- with a hat trick in the Royals 9-3 loss to Walsh Jesuit in the Sectional Final. Luke found the back of the net three times bringing his career point total to 399 total points.  Not only did Luke surpass the Ohio state record of 331 points, but also the national record for career points of 372 set in 1990, making Luke the nations All Time career leader in points.  Luke's  goal total to 243, 72 goals more than the previous Ohio state record and only 6 short of the national record of 249 goals, makes Luke the 2nd all time leading goal scorer in the nation.  Luke also holds the Ohio state record for most points in a season at 136 points.  Congratulations Luke!

Royals Fall to Walsh in Sectional Final
Feb 23rd 2013.  The Royals season came to an end last night at the hands of the Walsh Jesuit Warriors in the Sectional Final as they fell by a score of 9-3.  It was the first time in history the Royals had reached the Sectional Final.  The Warriors capitalized on nearly every mistake made by the Royals picking up the games first two goals just seconds apart with six minutes left in the first period.  The Royals had numerous scoring opportunities in the first period and managed to close the gap 2-1 on a goal by Luke Sunde that was assisted by Mark Sunde and Will Anderson. The Warriors managed a goal with just twelve seconds left in the first period to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.  The Warriors were the first to strike in the second period but the Royals Luke Sunde once again answered to close the gap to 4-2.  The goal was assisted by Mark Sunde.  The Royals and Warriors once again traded goals with Luke Sunde picking up his third goal of the game to once again bring the Royals within striking distance at 5-3. But the Warriors were able to capitalize on numerous opportunities scoring the games next four goals and close out the Royals season with a 9-3 win.  Jonah Savitt was strong in net and made 46 saves on the night.

Royals Down Hudson 5-2!
Feb 16th 2013.  The Royals defeated the Hudson Explorers tonight 5-2 in dramatic come from behind fashion in a sectional semi-final playoff game.  The Royals found themselves down 2-0 in the third period but they never quit. The Explorers struck first in an evenly played first period to take a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.  The second period was a back and forth affair with neither team managing to score.  The Explorers scored in the third period to extend their lead to 2-0 but the Royals didn't panic and thirty seconds later senior captain Mark Sunde scored on a wrist shot to put the Royals on the board and close the gap at 2-1.  It was the spark the Royals needed. Less than a minute later freshman Josh Polanski scored to tie the game for the Royals on a beautiful top-shelf wrist shot assisted by Andrew Pruitt.  Senior Luke Sunde then scored what would be the game winner with five and a half minutes to play.  The goal was assisted by Mark Sunde.  With two and a half minutes to play Luke Sunde struck again to extended the Royals lead to 4-2 with his second goal of the night assisted by Will Anderson.  Luke Sunde would complete the hat trick with an empty net goal to seal the 5-2 win with eighteen seconds left in the game.  Jonah Savitt was outstanding in net stopping 31 shots including a breakaway late in the game to protect the lead.  It was a great team effort for the Royals.  The Royals next game is Friday February 22nd at 8:00pm when they face the Walsh Jesuit Warriors at the Kent State Ice Arena in the Sectional Final.

Royals Defeat Twinsburg Tigers 8-0
Fefb 14th 2013.  The Royals downed the the Twinsburg Tigers last night to advance to the second round of play in the District Tournament.  The Royals were paced by Luke Sunde's 4 goals and 2 assists.  Mark Sunde had 2 goals and 4 assists and Aaron Corpora and Tim Cuckow each chipped in with a goal.  Tucker Anderson picked up 2 assists and Parker Batista and Andrew Pruitt each added an assist. Jonah Savitt stopped 14 shots in the winning effort.  The Royals face the Hudson Explorers on Saturday Feb 16th at 5:30pm at the Kent State Ice Arena in the second round of District Tournament.

Royals Fall in Baron Cup Semi-Final
Feb 9th 2013. The Royals hopes of advancing to the Baron Cup final were dashed last night by Orange High School as the Royals went down in defeat by a score of 4-2.  The Royals battled until the final buzzer but came up short.  Mark Sunde scored both of the Royal's goals with Luke Sunde, Will Anderson and Tim Cuckow picking up the assists.  Jonah Savitt was outstanding on the night keeping the Royals in the game with 35 saves.  The Royals begin the District Playoffs this Wednesday Feb. 13th at 8pm at the Kent State Ice Arena as they face off again Twinsburg.

Royals Defeat Brecksville- On to Baron Cup Semi-Finals
Feb 6th 2013.  The Royals got off to a fast start last night against the Brecksville Bees taking a 5-1 lead into the 3rd period but a determined Brecksville team scored 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to make the game exciting.  The Royals sealed the win with an open net goal with 31 seconds to play to secure the 6-4 win and their place in Baron Cup semi-final game on Friday.  The Royals were led by Luke Sunde's hat trick.  Josh Polanski, Will Anderson and Parker Batista each scored goals.  Mark Sunde had 3 assists and Tim Cuckow picked up an assist.  Jonah Savitt was excellent in net making 40 saves on the night. The Royals will face the White East division champion Orange High School in the Baron Cup semi-final game Friday night at 8pm at the Coyne Rec Centre in Brooklyn.

Royals Lose in OT Thriller
Feb 3rd 2013.  CVCA honored the Hockey Class of 2013 on Saturday with a pre-game ceremony in front of the largest crowd to ever watch a CVCA hockey game.  The ceremony was followed by an outstanding back and forth hockey game that unfortunately ended in a Kent Roosevelt 4-3 sudden death overtime win.  The game was marred by multiple questionable penalties which saw the Royals on the penalty kill for more than half of the game.  But in spite of the handicap the Royals never quit.  The first period ended with 0-0 tie due to the tremendous effort of the Royals penalty killers.  Mark Sunde opened the scoring in the second period assisted by Luke Sunde.  The Roughriders then scored with the man advantage to tie the game and also struck a minute later to take a 2-1 lead.  The Royals struck back to tie the score on a goal by Josh Polanski assisted by Andrew Pruitt.  Once again with the man advantage the Roughriders took the lead going into the third period 3-2.  The Royals dug deep and were able to tie the score with 2:11 left in regulation on a goal by Luke Sunde assisted by Mark Sunde.  The Roughriders struck quickly with less than a minute into the overtime  period to secure the win.  It was a great game with an unfortunate ending.

Feb 26th 2013.  Mark Sunde finished his remarkable CVCA hockey career in his usual fashion- making plays and setting up his brother Luke.  Mark picked up two assists in the last game of his CVCA career.  Those two assists brought Mark's career total to 199, an Ohio state record surpassing the previous record of 167 assists and a new national record surpassing the the previous record of 195 assists. Mark ends his career as the nations all time leader in assists.  Mark's career point total of 352 points place him second only to his brother Luke in the Ohio record books and fourth all time on the national level.  Congratulations Mark!

Feb 24th 2013.  Three Royals have been selected to play in the first annual Red vs. White All Star game Sunday March 3rd at Quicken Loans Arena.  Jonah Savitt, Mark Sunde and Luke Sunde were chosen to the White Team.  The game begins at 1:30pm and preceeds the Lake Erie Monsters game at 4pm vs. the Rochester Americans.  To purchase tickets or for more game information click here.

Feb 9th 2013.  The Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League announced the selection of the All League Team yesterday.  The team is selected from the entire White League. Three Royals were selected to the team.  Senior forward Luke Sunde was selected to the All League 1st Team, senior Mark Sunde was selected to the All League 2nd Team and sophomore Tucker Anderson was selected to the All League 3rd Team.  The players will be honored prior to the Baron Cup final game tomorrow at 2:30pm at the Coyne Rec Center in Brooklyn. The All Division Teams will be announced on Monday. Congratulations to all those selected.

Royals Defeat Conference Rival Solon
Jan 31st 2013. The Royals took care of business at the Gilmour Academy Arena last night defeating conference rival Solon High School by a score of 6-3.  The Royals were led by Luke Sunde's hat trick.  Luke also picked up an assist on the night. Tucker Anderson scored two goals and Josh Polanski added a goal.  Mark Sunde picked up two assists and Zach Longo, Will Anderson and Aaron Corpora each chipped in with an assist.  Jonah Savitt was strong in net with 25 saves on the night.  Next up for the Royals are the Kent Roosevelt Roughriders this Saturday February 2nd at 1:45pm at the Kent State Ice Arena.  It's Senior Day so come out and help us honor a very special Senior Class!
